課程概述

This course is designed for Master/Ph.D. students interesting in conducting research projects on IS project/program/portfolio management and implementation. The basic project/program management issues will not be covered/lectured in this course. However, the following books will provide the sufficient information for those who are lacking the basic backgrounds of IS project/program management.
Program Management, Michel Thiry, 2010, Gower, ISBN: 978-0566-08882-7.

課程目標
The course is designed to help you understand major theories and issues concerning the information systems (IS) project/program/portfolio implementation and management. We approach IS implementation management at the “project”, “program”, and “portfolio” level of analysis, focusing on project/program/portfolio structures, processes, teams and how they interact with their social environments (e.g., organizations, stakeholders, competitors). The course should inform your understanding of IS project/program/portfolio management by integrating relevant theories from the Management, Project Management, and Information Systems (IS) literatures and by demonstrating the application of these theories in IS project/program/portfolio research. This course aims to prepare you finding a research topic for your Master or Ph.D. thesis.

Furthermore, some of the advanced analytical methods such as Polynomial Regression Analysis, Response Surface Method, Moderated-Mediating and Mediated-Moderating Analysis, 2SLS tests for endogenous variables would be discussed at this course as the students’ proposed research models needed.

課程要求
Evaluation: Performance in the course will be assessed via a combination of the followings:

1. Participation on a group research project on a topic at the intersection of IS and organization/management theories, such as communications, expectation, motivation, control, coordination, goals, etc. The project will review and categorize the related literature on the topic chosen (or assigned) by the students. Each student will be responsible for reviewing, categorizing and analyzing these relationships in a pre-specified sub-area. Then the students will pull together the findings in each of the areas to generate a paper. You will be evaluated on your performance in reviewing, categorizing and analyzing your assigned sub-area as well as the overall quality of the final paper. It will be worth a total of 30% of your grade.

2. A mini-dissertation proposal that focuses on one of the topic areas covered in the course. The proposal will contain a discussion of the motivation for the research, a literature review, hypotheses, research methods, data analysis results, and conclusion/implications. See below for more information. A draft of the paper is due on April 20, 2017. It will be worth 5% of your final grade. The final version of the paper is due on June 20, 2017. This is an individual project and will be worth 45% of your grade.

3. Participation in discussions will be worth 20% of your grade. This class will be run as a seminar; therefore, active participation is required from all students. You should come prepared to discuss, in detail, any part of the assigned reading each week. Use of notes for class discussion is strongly encouraged. You will be responsible for leading discussions of the assigned readings. In-class presentations on the assigned materials (and the leading of discussion), worth 10% of your grade. You will receive the schedule for leading discussion at the second class meeting. In the spirit of the seminar, you and your classmates will share responsibility for a meaningful discussion of the assigned reading.

4. The instructor reserve 5% (+ or -) of your total grade on your “interactions” with me and your classmates. I expect that you will treat your instructor and your classmates with proper manners (professionally).
